Was streaming some music and it picked up 80% of them on my desktop iMac. Clicked on the Shazam icon, opened iTunes and made a few music purchases. Very cool. This is an awesome free app.

I have been using Shazam on my Mac since it was released. When Shazam is turned on it can pick up music or audio from your TV, Speaker or just about any device that proudce sound. The app does pick up my music about 95% of the time but other times it will not dectecd or match the audio which is only about 5% of the time. It does keep track of your tags however Shazam for Mac app does not linked your tagged to your Shazam account. So if you restore your computer you will lose all your tags that the app have recongize but there is a way to add the tags to your Shazam account. There is aworkaround to get your Shazam tags from you Mac synced to your Shazam account. First you have to login into your Shazam account using the web browser. Once you are logged in then you will have to go to the Shazam app on your Mac, which you have to single click on every tagged saved on your Mac, which will open up in your web browser then you have to click add to my Shazam. If you have a lot of tags it can take a while. Like the Shazam app on my iPhone, Shazam should add a button to force Shazam to recognize a song or sound from TV because 5% of the time I don’t think that Shazam is listening to the audio even when I turn it off then back on, it will not dectect the audio but its an rare issue. But having a button to force shazam to listen to audio would be great and if Shazam could add an option to login to Shazam on your Mac so it will sync to your Shazam account is a must. Overall its a good app, never had any problems with the app but there is room for improvement.
ne fonctionne plus chez moi, mac book pro.
Shazam ne fonctionne pas sur mon mac book pro mi-2012 OSX El Capitain, il marchait avant !
It doesn’t work at all
Installed on fresh OS X Yosemite, on a MacBook Pro, simply did not work. The input source was set to the MacBooks microphone, but it didnt pick up anything.
So far it’s barely recognising anything. For something that wants to keep my microphone on permanently, at the very least the basic functionality should work properly. Yet it hasn’t been updated in 6 weeks.
Installed normaly, but it doesn’t work.
If you were watching TV or a movie, or sitting in a public space with background music, this would be good for identifying it. But if you don’t use your Mac in those situations, it becomes pointless, since it doesn’t have any way of recognizing when the audio is being produced by iTunes, which means if you just let your library play Shazam will tag it all. If you usually listen to music that way, this version of Shazam is going to have to be turned off all the time anyway.
Love Shazaam, but I don’t like the randomness of it identifying everything it hears. It should allow for more control like the phone app.
Great idea! I’ve been wating for the mac version of shazam! Sometimes u just cant use ur phone and mac is closer. 2 Things that must be tweaked are: 1) Must be able to delete shazamed songs… (Im for example deleting the titles after I already got them) 2) Maybe add a manual switch to listen… instead of just having the auto button. Other then that, im fully satisfied! Thank you for bringing shazam to mac :DDD
this app is amazing it even picked up on a song my neigbours were listening to. It is always running in the backround unless you turn it off and if a song is detected a small box pops up telling you the song name ane artist.
Tried it on some mixes, and it got 9 out of 10 songs wrong… I like the fact that it also monitors the sound coming out of your computer not just the mic.
Only picked up 6 or 7 songs out of 10, seemed to always miss the ones I was actually curious about. Deleted, maybe check back later, maybe not.
This app can detect any song or clip I listen to it is the best app I’ve ever download even during a live brodcatst wit the sound in the background on bad speakers it could dectect it aswell it could dectect from external audio like tv and iPod or iPhone etc…….. My only dissapoitnent it is there is a 4 hour time and it needs to be reset every 4 hours.
I downloaded the App, forgot about it for a while and started it up for the first time later in the day. To my surprise the time lapse counter had nearly 4 hours already. Scary Stuff. I like the iPhone App, but I’m uninstalling this. I’m considering doing the same for my IPhone too. *constructs tin-foil hat*
If you can’t shazam what’s being outputed from the soundcard, whats the point? I’d pickup my phone and use the mic pickup like we always have - there has to be something unique to the desktop version to hear what’s playing on the system audio - ie from soundcloud mixes where they dont post a tracklist - what song could that be? Oh, let me shazam that - wait…. i can’t! - let me get my phone. THINK before releasing software.
As others have found, Shazam does nothing at all. Maybe it’ll be fixed someday. I also agree with other comments that it’s extremely cheezy that it stays on permanently unless you hit an “off” switch. This is design by money-grabbers, not by people who want to deliver something great. You’re shooting yourselves in the foot in the long run, guys. It’s just a huge turn off. I’ll feel slightly unclean launching your app, Shazam won’t come to mind as an application I’d recommentd, and I’ll run to a competitor at the first chance.
it was great and i loved it but it stopped working after a while i cant re download it cuz it says its open when i cant access it
I downloaded this app thinking that it would “listen” to what I was watching (YouTube) and let me know the songs I was listening to…nope. It doesn’t appear to use the internal sound card to detect what audio is playing, but only the outside sources via a microphone? I only own one mic and it is attached to my gaming headset, so unless I want to randomly be told what songs my girlfriend is singing while she does her artwork, I can’t see how it has any value over the iPhone (which now uses Siri to identify songs). It seems like a short sighted, and poorly designed app. It has little in the way of settings, so you can’t set it to only listen to certain things, change the icon to a B&W version (which would make sense to turn blue when a song is detected), or do anything other than some self promotion nonsense. I wouldn’t bother downloading this app. Just use your iPad/iPhone as per usual.
